Velvet Goldmine

I don't want to jinx it but I THINK I've found my Christmas Party Dress. As I posted a couple of weeks ago I'm really wanting a velvet devore or sequined number this year. It's harder than you'd think to find something that isn't really tight fitting & tarty but not too expensive. I've been trawling around for a while now & coming up with nothing. I was in love with the Balmain show last year when they showed all the jewel coloured burnouts but obviously this is more than a little out of my reach. I even had a couple of boards on the go for inspiration--

So this morning I had a promotional email from boohoo. I've bought a few things from there in the past & I do like a browse every so often but I'd written them off for fancy partywear. You can never be sure of the quality & they're usually primed for the more 'bodycon' customer, especially over the Christmas period. However, I'm prepared to eat my words if this dress arrives & it looks as good in the flesh as it does here. So excited!! I've been after a green dress for ages, this ticks so many boxes & it was only £25!!! Boohoo, how wrong I was to ever doubt you!

Green with Envy

Feeling green for a variety of reasons today, I lost out on a few ebay items at the weekend, due to my own cheapness & dodgy wifi reception in the flat. I'm especially jealous of whoever won the abstract floral burnout shirt beauty that had my name all over it : ( I've also been scouting round for a green dress since summer, but to no avail. Ever since seeing Keira's stunning number in Atonement I've been more into my greens. That was breathtakingly beautiful wasn't it?

I was hoping to find something in an apple or emerald hue, I have so many red, yellow, blue & purple dresses it seems only fair to give green some love! The Asos Elephant jacquard smock is fun, as is their lovely lace midi, both for a bargainous £26!! On the other end of the spectrum, this Martin Margiela wrap dress is just dreamy. Makes me sad this will probably never make it to my wardrobe-it belongs in there!

There is however, a clear winner & it's from Toppers. You can always count on Topshop to come up with the goods can't you! I must admit I love the silk-slip-teamed-with-oversized-knit-look that's absolutely everywhere at the minute. We all know the 90's is back in a BIG way, I particularly like how this trend can almost be traced back to one definitive fashion article circa 1992- Vogue's Grunge & Glory editorial.

I'm going to pop down to Oxford Circus after work methinks, praying they have this dress in the tall section, it's calling out to me, & for £38 I just have to answer!

Here's a bit of inspiration to whet your silk & knit appetite

ps I've stupidly only just remembered my nails are green too!
