Pre-Fall 2014

I always find it a little difficult to keep myself in S/S mode when it gets nearer to Christmas, hard to keep designing Springy florals when the tree's up in the office & there's tinsel around my mac monitor! It's been great (if a little frightening) to see all the fabulous new Pre-Fall shows start filtering through. There's been some definite standouts for me, with Phillip Lim & Thakoon leading all the way.

The 3.1 Phillip Lim show is such a beautiful spectrum of rich colours, flecked with gorgeous warm coppers & electric blue. I can imagine hip Studio 54ers in this collection on their days off boogying on down.

Thakoon Addition was just perfect in my opinion, & so wearable. There aren't many shows I look at where I think I'd want the entire outfit, there are usually elements I pick out to moon over! I've long been a fan of MSGM, principally for their impeccably coordinated mix & match prints but also in creating separates that work so well together. I do think there's a touch of MSGM inspiration here, the grids & roses in particular, but I have to say I'm sold on all of it!

Prabal Gurung always bring something different to the table, and this collection is no exception. I like that Gurung believes his girl wants 'femininity with bite'! Definitely agree, you need a balance between light & dark. There are so many highlights in this show, the strong primary colours, the applique & fabric mixes in particular for me. Lela Rose is another stunning example of using these elements sucessfully, just gorgeous!

I love browsing on Opening Ceremony, they're brilliant at introducing you to wonderful new designers you might not necessarily have come across before. Their own line is also worth a look, loving all the curved lines & simple palette. This show really reminds me of Carven's Pre Fall 13 collection, definitely for the silhouettes, but even the print..

An honourable mention to Jason Wu for this beautiful sheer & lace skirt teamed with a plain oversized sweater, LOVE THIS LOOK. So simple, but again it's that mix of tough & feminine that really works.

Lastly, Fendi. Loving the furry socks & the neon stitched appligue on the coats. Im not a massive fan of graphic lines & colour blocking, think it's a bit officewear for runway, but I do love the fun details in this show.

There's still so much to come out, I'm sure I'll be blogging Pre Fall again soon!
